Reviews - Qualifications

ESITO is currently reviewing or revising the following qualifications. If you wish to be involved in a review, or have any comments concerning a review, please contact Tim Stevens, Industry Standards Development Officer, tims@esito.org.nz.

Power Technician Level 5
ESITO is undertaking a review of this qualification. Industry was asked for representation on an industry steering group and an initial meeting was held in July. Meeting notes are attached. We are still keen to receive comment from industry and in particular from the network sector which was not represented at the initial meeting.

Line Mechanic Distribution Level 3
ESITO is aware of the new requirement under the Approved Code of Practice (ACoP) for cranes that all crane operators are required to hold relevant standards. Line Mechanics who operate truck mounted cranes must, as a minimum, hold unit standard 16617. However, as this is not a requirement of registration, this standard cannot be added to the qualification as a compulsory standard. When the qualification is next revised it will be added as an optional standard.

Operator Level 3
Currently this qualification is part of the pathway for both hydro and network operators. Industry consultation has determined that it could also be in the Thermal Operator pathway. This qualification is now due to be reviewed and the review will include discussion about changing the qualification structure in order to accommodate standards appropriate to a thermal operator pathway.
