Companies within the Electricity Supply Industry can access government funded programmes for:
- Analysis and development of organisational needs
- Skill development for individual employees or small groups of employees
- Skill development for ITO trainees.
Analysis and development of organisational needs
Who is eligible?
Industry employers.
How does it work?
It provides funding for a literacy provider to complete an organisational literacy needs analysis of the company. The provider then develops a tailor-made learning programme for the company.

Skill development for individual employees or small groups of employees
If you have employees who have workplace learning needs, we encourage you to read the following information and pass it on to them.
Who is eligible?
To be eligible for this free tuition the employee must be:
- a New Zealand citizen or permanent resident
- a voluntary participant
- employed in the paid workforce, including part-time and/or seasonal employment
- considered to have no or low qualifications, or low literacy and numeracy skills
- not accessing ESITO’s Embedded Literacy and Numeracy trainee programme
- not participating in any form of Workplace Literacy programme through your company .
How does it work?
The programmes are available throughout New Zealand. On average, people receive 25 hours tuition over twelve weeks from tutors with experience in workplace literacy. Tuition is tailored to individual skill levels and goals and related directly to the workplace.

Skill development for ITO trainees ( TEC’s Embedded Literacy and Numeracy Project)
Who is eligible?
ESITO Line Mechanic and Cable Jointer trainees signing an ESITO Training Agreement from June 2008.
How does it work?
ESITO receives the TEC funding and organises the tuition. Trainees are automatically registered to complete a literacy and numeracy assessment once they sign an ESITO Training Agreement. Tuition is then offered based on the outcomes of the assessment and discussion with ESITO literacy staff.
