ESITO has two categories of assessors:

• Industry Training Organisation Registered Internal Workplace Assessors. These people are employed by companies and do on-the-job assessment of unit standards that are accredited with the industry training organisation.
• Industry Training Organisation Registered External Assessors. These people are employed by Training Provider Trainers who deliver training and assess to unit standards.

Note: An internal workplace assessor can also be employed by a training provider. When this occurs, the assessor works under the quality management system of that provider.

Assessing in the workplace

Internal Workplace Assessors who are registered with the Industry Training Organisation can:

• Assess ESITO trainees
• Train ESITO trainees
• Conduct training and assessment with a provider if requested – if this occurs you are an external assessor for that activity.

Internal Workplace Assessors who are registered with the Industry Training Organisation cannot:

• Train and assess a candidate with the outcome being a National Qualification unit standard.

External Assessors who are registered with the Industry Training Organisation can:

• Conduct Training and Assessment as a recognised Training Provider Trainer.

Lodging credits for NZQA registration

Internal Workplace Assessors who are registered with the Industry Training Organisation can only lodge credits through the Industry Training Organisation when the candidate has a current training agreement with ESITO
