Moderation
Moderation is the process of monitoring, evaluating and improving assessment documentation, practices and decisions. It ensures that:
- assessments meet the national standard
- assessments are fair, valid and consistent with the requirements of the unit standards
- decisions about trainees' competencies are reliable and consistent between assessors.
Moderation also provides the opportunity for training providers to get professional feedback on their teaching and assessment material. This confirms whether their tools meet industry standards and helps identify where improvements may be needed.
Who carries out moderation?
Moderation is carried out by our team of 12 moderators. The moderators are responsible for:

- pre-assessment moderation of assessment material developed by ESITO
- external moderation, including site visits, of training providers that are delivering ESITO qualifications.
